Volvo, Mack Recall 5,137 Trucks Over Brake Modulator

A Shared Brake Component Is The Issue

Volvo Trucks North America and Mack Trucks are recalling a combined 5,137 heavy-duty tractors tied to a Bendix rear brake modulator connector issue. The Brake Report says the affected connector can be exposed to moisture or contamination, creating a short-circuit risk that can make ABS and electronic stability control unavailable.

The recall covers Volvo VNL and VNR tractors as well as Mack Pioneer and Anthem tractors from recent model years. The affected vehicles use multiple rear brake modulators, and vehicles with only a single rear brake modulator are not part of the campaign.

What The Filings Show

The Brake Report said the Volvo population includes 2,800 vehicles under NHTSA recall 26V260, while Mack accounts for 2,337 vehicles under NHTSA recall 26V261. The companies reported 48 field reports and 47 warranty claims across the two populations, with no crashes or injuries reported at the time of publication.

Volvo Group issued a stop-shipment order on April 16, 2026 for affected vehicles under its control. The investigation traced the problem to an unprotected connector rather than a basic design or manufacturing defect in the Bendix modulator itself.

Repair Plan For Fleets

Dealers will inspect the rear brake modulator electrical connectors, replace non-conforming modulators where needed, and install a protective cover. For fleets running late-model Volvo or Mack tractors, the practical move is straightforward: check VINs, watch for ABS or stability-control warnings, and schedule the free repair before the truck is needed in poor-weather service.
