Singapore Opens 46-Port Commercial EV Charging Hub
Singapore opened a 46-point public fast-charging hub built around electric buses, trucks, taxis, and other commercial EVs. The Jurong site shows how fleet charging is starting to move beyond passenger-car parking lots.
A commercial charging site
Singapore has opened a 46-point public fast-charging hub for commercial electric vehicles in Jurong, giving electric buses, trucks, taxis, and cars a site designed around larger vehicle movements.
The hub is located at 2E Jalan Papan, home of the JIC Inspection Centre. The Straits Times reported that six charging points are on the first floor and 40 are on the fifth floor. The site is operated by Volt Singapore, Keppel's EV charging arm.
Built for larger EVs
The chargers can add up to 300 km of range in 10 minutes, depending on the vehicle. For electric buses, charging from 20% to 80% takes less than two hours, compared with four to six hours on many commercial chargers.
The site is especially relevant for larger commercial vehicles because it has a 4.2-meter height limit and maneuvering space for buses and trucks. ComfortDelGro Bus is expected to be a major user, with electric buses serving shuttle routes at Nanyang Technological University and the National University of Singapore.
The fleet lesson
The important signal is not just charger count. Fleet electrification depends on sites that match duty cycles, vehicle size, dwell time, and inspection or depot routines. Jurong's model puts charging near a commercial vehicle inspection center and leaves room to expand to 70 chargers if utilization supports it.
