Ford Pro Will Deliver 131 Electric Vans to Berlin BVG
Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe will add 49 E-Transit Custom vans and 82 E-Transit vans by the end of 2026, using them for maintenance, service, and transport work across Berlin.
BVG Adds Electric Vans for Service Work
Ford Pro will deliver 131 all-electric vans to Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe, the public transport operator better known as BVG, by the end of 2026. The vehicles will support maintenance, service, transport, and materials work across Berlin's public transit network.
The order includes 49 E-Transit Custom vans and 82 E-Transit models. Ford said the vans were configured for the practical needs of urban transit operations, where short distances, frequent stops, and changing work orders define the duty cycle.
Range and Payload Shape the Use Case
The E-Transit Custom models have a 64 kWh usable battery, 100 kW of power, and a listed range of up to 331 kilometers, or up to 443 kilometers in urban use. The larger E-Transit models use a 68 kWh battery, deliver 135 kW, and offer up to 15.1 cubic meters of cargo space for heavier materials and service logistics.
Those specifications matter because public-agency service fleets tend to electrify fastest when vehicles return to base, run predictable city routes, and can be charged around planned shifts. BVG's maintenance fleet fits that profile more cleanly than long-haul or irregular-use vehicles.
A Public-Fleet Signal for Van Electrification
The BVG order is another sign that municipal and transit-adjacent fleets are moving electric vans from pilot programs into everyday support work. For fleet managers, the useful lesson is less about the badge on the grille and more about matching vehicles to route density, charging windows, cargo needs, and maintenance coverage before scaling a deployment.
